Political  Activity  Policy
Reviewed September 2019

The League of Women Voters shall not support or oppose any political party or candidate.

League members are encouraged to take an active part as individuals (but not as League representatives) in the political party of their choice and to engage in partisan activities.

A board member shall resign if he/she becomes a candidate for elective office in a partisan governmental body or is appointed to fill a vacancy for such office, and such resignation shall be made public by the board.

Board members may accept appointment to a non-elective board or become candidates for elective office in a governmental body providing, in the judgment of the League of Women Voters of the Palatine Area Board, such a body is non-partisan in its aim and activities and will not conflict with League policy or position.

The President/Co-Presidents  and Voter Service Chair may not hold office (including chairman, precinct captain, block captain, etc.) in a political party organization and may not actively campaign for a political party or for a candidate for political office, and may not attend coffees and meetings for individual candidates.

A board member may serve as a poll watcher or election judge.

Any questionable circumstance not outlined above shall be decided by the League of Women Voters of the Palatine Area Board.
