WHERE WE STAND
League of Women Voters of the Palatine Area
INTRODUCTION
WHERE WE STAND presents positions of the League of Women Voters of the Palatine Area.
It is meant to be used in conjunction with IMPACT ON ISSUES/national programs and positions, WHERE WE STAND/state programs and positions, and WHERE WE STAND/Cook County programs and positions. These, plus the Principles of the League of Women Voters, form the basis for study and action by LWVPA.
The program of the LWVPA is adopted by the membership at the Annual Meeting. Suggestions and decisions for retaining and/or changing the local program are made by the members. When a new item is added, it is studied thoroughly by members. After study and discussion, consensus is reached. The Board of Directors then adopts a statement of position based on that consensus.
Authorization for every League action, whether it is a letter to the editor or a legislator, testimony in public meetings, or distribution of literature, must be based on these positions and/or League principles.
This document will provide League members with a greater understanding of our local programs and possibilities for action. Just as important, it will help non- members and prospective members better understand what the League stands for and upon what authority the League acts.
